Many warehouses and Distribution Centers whether owned and operated by the E-Retailer or outsourced to a 3^rd party logistics provider (3PL) are inefficient at handling the document portion of the order fulfillment process. Even with state of the art conveyors, pick to light systems and the latest in warehouse management software (WMS), they are still experiencing bottlenecks at the end of the line, namely the pack stations. As the volume of orders increase, the bottlenecks intensify resulting in the line being inefficient. Throwing more staff to manually clear up the bottlenecks is often not feasible due to increased labor costs and impractical due to space restrictions. Handling documents during the order fulfillment process erodes most distribution center's and warehouse's profitability.
