ALSTOM's Pneumatic Distributor provides superior, uniform fuel distribution with flexibility to accommodate variations in fuel size and moisture content. Wear-resistant liners help to maximize service life.

ALSTOM has roots in the design and supply of stoker equipment dating back to the late 1800's. We have supplied systems, component upgrades, and replacement parts for coal, wood, bagasse and refuse fired stokers to industrial, pulp & paper and utility customers.

ALSTOM's improved Pneumatic Distributor provides optimal distribution of cellulose fuels regardless of quality, sizing and moisture content. It is applicable to virtually all designs and brands of traveling grate stokers and is available in standard widths of 20", 24" and 28". Custom widths are available for requirements greater than 28".

ALSTOM has supplied various bark distributor designs for over 45 years. Early distributor designs were mechanical using a rotating drum with blades to throw the hog fuel out onto the grates. The mechanical distributors performed best when bark sizing was consistent and did not contain a high percentage of fines.

Pneumatic distributors were developed to provide consistent fuel distributor over a much wider range of fuel conditions. These distributors also had less moving parts equating to maintenance savings.

Older fuel distributors were designed for heat resistance only since bark and wood chips posed little threat to the wear life of the distributor.

In recent years, customers have been experiencing accelerating abrasion type damage to the fuel distributors as well as other bark handling components. These accelerated wear rates are a direct result of increased sand and rock content in the hog fuel.

All pneumatic distributors have on inlet chute, high-pressure air nozzle and a deflector plate.

Accelerated deflector plate wear is experienced with higher fuel sand content. Distributors with curved trajectory plates tend to see the most severe wear.

In order to combat the increased wear issues without sacrificing distributor performance, ALSTOM has designed its pneumatic distributor to incorporate the following features:

Features

  • Vertically adjustable tray assembly
  • Manually adjustable air inlet damper or motor-driven rotating assembly for plenum stokers
  • Bolt-on tungsten carbide coated liner plates to fight silica abrasion
  • Stainless steel furnace side construction
  • Stainless steel mounting adapter plates
  • Removable front panel for direct access to distributor adjusting mechanism and removal of tray from the front of the distributor
  • Heavy-duty handwheel mechanism
  • Tray angle indicator
  • Bark chute back-draft damper at distributor inlet when required
  • Air to the distributor (either at ambient temperature or preheated to 550 degrees F, maximum) is supplied by a high-pressure fan (up to 30 in. w.g.)

Benefits

  • Superior, uniform fuel distributor
  • Tungsten carbide coated liners maximize tray assembly performance and life
  • Maintenance access from both sides
  • Air pressure and tray angle adjustments provide maximum flexibility for setting fuel trajectory based on variations in fuel conditions (i.e., sizing and moisture content)
  • Heavy-duty sealed handwheel adjusting mechanism assures reliable adjustments when required
  • Proven reliable design
  • Flexible arrangements to accommodate a variety of stoker designs and capacity requirements of pulp & paper and utility customers
