New 10/100 MOPS, Fiber Optic Redundant Ethernet Ring Switch feartures 30-Millisecond Reconfiguration
A new managed Ethemet ring switch, designed for highspeed system recovery, has been introduced by Weed Instrument of Round Rock, Texas.
The R208-W Managed Ethernet Ring Switch utilizes Fast Reconfiguration of Network Topology (FRNT) to eliminate failures caused by network links andlor hardware. The new switch allows high availability of the network and fast re-configuration (as low as 30 ms), permitting the use of redundant ring topology in systems that were previously unable to employ this technology. The switch offers both fault contact and SNMP to provide notification of the ring failure.
Ruggedly engineered, the new switch features a durable military design and offers full functionality in a wide range of temperatures (- 40 to +85 deg C). It has no moving parts or electrolytic capacitors and provides a wide DC input power range (19 to 60VDC), redundant power input, and over eighteen years MTBF.
The Ethernet ring is managed by a switch (custom-configured by the user) referred to as the "focal point," with the other switches in the ring called the "member switches." Switch configuration is accomplished easily by means of an included Windows-based IP Configuration tool. Any of the "focal point" switch's Ethernet ports can be used for configuration - no serial port is necessary. Thus, the R208-W can be mounted and installed prior to configuration; remote configuration and supervision through the network are also possible and are also facilitated quickly.
