Carbon High Power Radiant Heater from Heraeus Noblelight, Inc.

Infrared heaters transmit large amounts of energy in a short time and at high efficiency. The wavelength of the infrared lamp has a crucial effect on the effectiveness of the heating process. IR heaters, which are optimally matched to the materials to be heated, provide energy savings of up to 50%. Heraeus infrared heating technology offers significant advantages: heat exactly where it is needed, with the optimum wavelength for the product and in line with the process.

High heating efficiency and rapid cool down make the medium wave carbon emitter from Heraeus the only medium-wave emitter to offer you shortwave response times. Suitable for all medium-wave applications, this emitter also offers the capability to match temperatures to the optimum absorption wavelength for each application. Together, these features eliminate overheating and contamination of sensitive substrates.

With the greatest power output in the Medium Wave range, Carbon Infrared Emitters provide:

  • Maximum efficiency in heating and drying processes, rapid drying, minimum material stress and high energy saving

  • Instant response of infrared radiation for the heating process.

The Carbon High Power Technology is unique, as it offers medium wave radiation at high power with rapid response times. Medium wave radiation is highly efficient for drying processes and, with carbon emitters, energy savings of up to 50% can be achieved compared with short wave emitters. The Carbon high power IR heater is a new development in Infrared lamps – especially for high power. It achieves a maximum power density of 120 watts/in2, the highest power ever applied with medium wave Quartz emitters in industrial processes. A particular large portion of medium wave radiation is absorbed in water, solvents, and plastics and converted into heat. This allows significant benefits: carbon emitters dry printing inks, with less stress for the paper because the radiation acts more intensively on the ink. The high power infrared heater increases print drying speed and reduces drying time. It also heats plastics in a targeted manner, with less heating of the surrounding environment. Various types of infrared heaters have different maximum output at different wavelengths – Halogen IR lamps at 1 µm, Carbon IR heaters at about 2.5 µm. Therefore at 3 µm the High Power Carbon infrared heater provides three times the irradiance of a Halogen infrared lamps. Only that part of the spectrum which covers the absorption curve of water is effective for the drying process – not the whole infrared radiation. The infrared radiation of the Carbon emitter is almost ideally matched to the absorption spectrum of water. In comparison, only a small fraction of short wave radiation covers the absorption curve. In other words, the greater part of the energy of short wave infrared radiation is wasted. The result is: A short wave heater at the same power density supplies less than 50% of the power of a carbon infrared heater in drying processes. For example, at an irradiation of 120 watts/in2, the effective power density of a carbon infrared heater is around 28 watts/m2; that of a short wave infrared heater is around 14 watts/in2.

  • Standard, custom and OEM models available ------------------------- The Carbon Twin: A New Generation The new generation of proven Heraeus twin tube emitters is the Carbon Twin. Its maximum power density is twice that of conventional twin tube emitters, perfect for fast drying of water-based inks and coatings, and economical processing of plastics and glass. Twin tube carbon infrared heater can be easily retrofitted into existing infrared systems. They replace the existing infrared heaters, improve the system and decrease the running costs. In the medium wave range, Heraeus offers tailor-made twin tube infrared heater or carbon round tube infrared heater of especially high efficiency. New is the unique combination of both of these technologies, which allows important synergy effects. Common to both types of IR heater is the medium wave spectrum. Many materials absorb infrared especially in this region of the spectrum. The use of infrared emitters therefore contributes to the accelerated drying of water and other solvents and to economical processing of plastics and glass. The proven twin tube IR heaters bring their high stability to the carbon twin, as well as a significantly increased radiation density. In addition, they offer the possibility of manufacture in a range of models and the emitters can be connected to conventional standard power supplies. The carbon IR heater technology contributes to the high power density of the carbon twin. Carbon IR heaters have twice the maximum power density of conventional medium wave twin tube IR heaters. In addition, carbon IR heaters have fast heat-up and cool-down times and can be switched on and off in seconds.
