First Machine Slated as a Vertical Grinding Machine
Bourn & Koch's new composite platform machine has a no-maintenance, simplified yet flexible design that allows common building blocks of the basic machine to be configured as a:
Integral and linear motors with high precision feed back support vertical grinding or vertical turning, or vertical rotary surface grinding, or gear shaping, or any combination configuration machine of these processes. Each configuration has its own set of associated optional features that enhance the basic machine, peculiar to its machining application. Fewer moving parts, sealed bearings and full CNC controls eliminate the need for maintenance. Common stocked components shorten lead as well as installation times and provide for a faster startup.
The debut iteration of Bourn & Koch's new 1000 mm size series, composite platform machine, the 1000VBG, will be shown at the Gear Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana, booth #741 from September 15-17, 2009. It will be configured as a (1) one meter CNC vertical OD/ID grinder. This version includes optional software with a circular geometry inspection system capable of inspecting roundness and runout. This feature allows gear manufacturers to grind hardened gear IDs and ODs concentric to the pitchline of a finished gear.
The Bourn & Koch 1000VBG will be manufactured to both domestic USA standards and to European CE standards. Standard CNC control is a Siemens 840D.
