Staubli Corporation, a South Carolina based division of Staubli International designs and builts multicouplings for the arospace industry which maximize test and calibration bench production by allowing quick connection of all lines to the test bench at one time. By assuring that the couplings are properly aligned before connection, the multicouplings also prevent costly errors from improper connection which can result in inaccurate readings , downtime or even safety hazards.

The multicouplings are designed to give fast and efficient change of fuel cells on the calibration bench in order to allow maximum usage. The fuel cell to be calibrated is mounted on top of a cart and plumbed to one half of the multicoupling. The cart is pushed into position near the calibration bench. Proximity detectors on the bench side multicoupling plate signal that the mating half is in position. A pulling system in the bench side multicoupling extends and pulls the cart side plate into the connected position. Locks are then engaged to prevent the multicoupling plates from separating while under pressure.

The multicoupling plates are designed to house more than 60 couplings ranging in size from 1/8" flow to 3" flow with 7 electrical connectors of up to 37 contacts each. The operating pressure of the couplings range from 100 to 10000 psi. The system is designed to withstand 30 tons of separation force which would be achived if all couplings were brought to full pressure.
