Storage Battery Systems offers modular external maintenance bypass panels (MBP) to facilitate the maintenance, service and replacement of three phase uninterruptible power systems with a "make-before-break" design. The bypasses are conventional NEMA type panelboards, UL listed & suited for all UPS installations. They are available in three circuit breaker, two circuit breakers and customized configurations. KirkKey interlocks and "on bypass" solenoid key release units are standard. Aux contacts and either shunt trip (ST) or under voltage release units are available. All bypasses have legend plate operating instructions affixed to the exterior of the panelboard. The MBP allows for the complete removal of power from the UPS while maintaining the active critical load bus. This permits intrusive maintenance (annual PM) or repair procedures to be performed without risk to personnel or connected loads. It also facilitates a more rapid replacement of the entire UPS without load disruption. This equates to the ability to perform these actions during normal business operations as opposed to after hours maintenance windows. The advantages in safety, reliability & availability are coupled with a service cost savings realized by eliminating off-hours work.
