Why Synapse Design Services?
Because they have a team of problem solvers... engineers with decades of experience in successful, high technology development and have researched, designed, and implemented the most advanced IEEE802.15.4 wireless mesh network protocol, tools, and applications on the market today – and that expertise can be affordably available to you for your project.
Synapse is also a Design Partner for Freescale, Panasonic, California Eastern Labs (CEL) and Microchip, and brings design insight, experience and expertise to your hardware, software, firmware, or microcode project requirements.
Synapse is headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, which is one of the largest and most prolific technology centers in the USA. Synapse was selected "Best New Company" at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley 2009, San Jose, California, and SNAP, Synapse's wireless mesh network protocol, received the "Best of Show" award.
It's not as easy as it looks…
If you've already started a wireless project you'll understand the frustrations involved. You may be trying to create a new wireless network from the ground up – or you may be trying to add wireless capabilities to existing and/or legacy products. In either case, it doesn't take long to discover that things aren't quite as easy as you were promised. It's extremely frustrating to have large quantities of engineering time, resources, and money invested in a project that seems to have no end in sight… for example:
You purchased "out-of-the-box" wireless modules along with a ZigBee or custom software stack. You then discovered that the stack is huge and extremely complex; also that you have to add "intelligence" in the form of application code that sits on top of the stack. Creating this code requires extensive embedded system development and wireless network experience.
You purchased an "off-the-shelf" chipset (RF stage, microprocessor, memory, modem, etc.) along with a ZigBee or custom software stack. You've since discovered that laying out the RF portion of the board to achieve the required characteristics (performance, avoiding electromagnetic noise, etc.) requires specialist knowledge and experience.
You've implemented a wireless network based on a ZigBee or custom software stack. However, in addition to having to use Routers and/or Repeaters coupled with limited-capability End Devices, you've come to realize that all of the nodes in the network are constantly active and always "pinging", which clogs the system, slows it down, and quickly drains the power of any battery-based network nodes.
You have a number of existing products – each using a different microprocessor – to which you wish to add wireless capability. You've purchased an "off-the-shelf" ZigBee or custom software stack and you wish to run this stack on the same processors that are executing your product code. So now you have to port the stack to a variety of different processors and ensure that it works without crippling your product code (or vice versa). Porting this code requires extensive embedded system development and wireless network experience.
You've implemented your "base" wireless network platform and now you're ready to deploy it, but you have to provide a customized solution for each of your end users. This customization requires months of effort in modifying and debugging the embedded application code that resides in each node.
Enough! …you are not alone
At Synapse, they have worked with numerous customers in creating and deploying almost every form of wireless monitoring and control network. They are experts in designing and implementing RF stages and wireless modules, wireless network stacks and network applications, and all forms of wireless network nodes (Coordinators, Bridges, Repeaters, Routers, End Devices, etc.).
Synapse can take your specification (or help you write one) and generate a solution based on your current stack or their own high-performance, low-power, SNAP technology (Synapse Network Application Protocol). In short, they can help you with any of the following:
