All Passive Harmonic Filters use capacitors to reduce/eliminate the 5th and 7th harmonics generated by VFDs. However, they also have leading power factor when operated at less than 50% load. This may interact with other devices on a power distribution system.
The STC version of TCI's popular HG7 product family provides a contactor in the capacitor circuit which allows the VFD user to remove the capacitors when the VFD is idling. Simply use a relay, provided with the VFD, when the motor speed falls below a preset speed. This virtually eliminates the possibility of leading power factor interacting with other devices on the system.
