The I-Scan® system can measure the dynamic pressure distribution of the engine seal and as a result can provide valuable information to assist with these decisions.
The I-Scan has been used to study the dynamic pressure changes of a center fire ring seal during assembly, simulated combustion and relaxation. A paper-thin (0.1 mm) Tekscan sensing array was placed between the engine block and the head gasket. The head was fastened in place. A recording was made while test conditions were changed at certain stages. The system displays pressure values as different colors corresponding to the ranges in the legend on the right side of the screen.
