The M&P Lab offers a wide range of chemical analysis methods to solve a variety of problems with organic and inorganic materials.
Measuring trace concentrations of chemical elements can be important to verify a material's composition or to determine the presence of a contaminant. For inorganic materials, methods used by The M&P Lab include ion chromatography and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP).
Virtually any non-metallic or organic materials problem can be solved using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis, size exclusion chromatography or polarized light microscopy.
Thermal chemistry analyses are used to determine melting points, coefficients of thermal expansion, glass transitions, solidus-liquidus and specific heat of various materials. Specific methods offered by The M&P Lab are differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and high temperature differential thermal analysis (HTDTA).
The M&P Lab also has capability to evaluate dry lubricants, greases, oils and fuels. Among the analyses are ash content, distillation curve, flash point, pour point, specific gravity, sulfur content, viscosity, water separability, and trace metal analysis, among others. In addition, cone penetration and dropping point analyses are available for greases.
Outlined below is a detailed list of materials that can be characterized by The M&P Lab's methods:
Consumables Characterization
Alloys Characterization
Organics characterization by FTIR
Non-Ferrous Alloys
