In recent months, Thermotron has been shaking up the shock and vibration industries with the introduction of the DSX Series of electrodynamic vibration test systems. The line includes electrodynamic shakers in four force-pound ratings — 2,250, 4,000, 6,650, 8,000 lbf (10, 17.8, 29.6 and 35.6 kN) —making this line versatile for a variety of vibration testing requirements.

Featuring superior acceleration, velocity, force, and shock performance and rugged, newly redesigned lightweight magnesium armatures, the DSX Series shakers provide durability and versatility for a wide range of applications, including automotive shock and vibration testing, military transportation testing, avionics/aerospace vibration test requirements, and stress screening applications.

DSX-2250:

• 2,250 force pounds (10 kN) sine and random capabilities
• 12" (30.5 cm) diameter armature
• 500 pound (227 kg) maximum payload support
• 170 ips (4.32 mps) maximum velocity and 90 ips (2.28 mps) continuous velocity

DSX-4000:

• 4,000 force pounds (17.8 kN) sine and random capabilities
• 12" (30.5 cm); 16" (40.6 cm) or 24" (61 cm) diameter armatures
• 1,000 pound (453 kg) maximum payload support
• 80 ips (2.03 mps) maximum and 70 ips (1.78 mps) continuous velocity

DSX-6650:

• 6,650 force pounds (29.6 kN) sine and random capabilities
• 12" (30.5 cm); 16" (40.6 cm) or 24" (61 cm) diameter armatures
• 1,000 pound (453 kg) maximum payload support
• 115 ips (2.92 mps) maximum velocity and 90 ips (2.28 mps) continuous velocity

DSX-8000:

• 8,000 force pounds (35.6 kN) sine and random capabilities
• 12" (30.5 cm); 16" (40.6 cm) or 24" (61 cm) diameter armatures
• 1,000 pound (453 kg) maximum payload support
• 145 ips (3.68 mps) maximum velocity and 90 ips (2.28 mps) continuous velocity

Controlled by Thermotron's exclusive VCS-3200 Vibration Control System and updated for Windows XP®, the DSX Series is able to perform accurate sine, random, shock, resonant search and dwell, real data acquisition and playback (RDAP), random-on-random and sine-on-random test specifications. The VCS-3200 features over 85dB of dynamic range, a selectable resolution up to 3,200 lines and a user-selectable frequency range up to 3,000 Hz. Eight input channels are standard.

The DSX Series incorporates an air-cooled and highly efficient DS-940 Series Power Amplifier to drive the shaker to full output capability over the specified frequency range. The amplifier is integrated with dynamic field supply controls allowing the user to easily tune power consumption to the desired test level while maximizing performance.
