This one-day workshop provides an introduction to the new safety standard for Audio/Video, Information Technology and Communication Technology Equipment Part 1 - Safety Requirements, IEC 62368-1. IEC 62368-1 is a new safety standard containing requirements developed using Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) principles. The IEC 62368-1 standard, which is primarily performance-based, has evolved as a result of the convergence of technologies and product constructions associated with Audio/Video, Information Technology and Communications Technology Equipment.

The introduction to IEC 62368-1 workshop begins by introducing the background and purpose of this safety standard. In addition, the basic principles of HBSE are introduced as well as the principles and some general applications of the standard.

Introduction to IEC 62368-1 Comparison Summary Document v1

The Comparison Summary Document is intended to help those interested in identifying the potential differences between IEC 62368-1 and either IEC 60065 or IEC 60950-1. This 15-minute online course focuses on how to access and utilize the Comparison Summary Document for IEC 62368-1, IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065.

The first portion of this course describes the background and development of the document. The rest of the course focuses on understanding how to use the document including a review of the document layout. Upon course completion, students can download the Comparison Summary Document.

Join Underwriters Laboratories® for our newly developed and redesigned workshop on Information Technology and Communications Equipment: Designing for Compliance to UL 60950-1 2nd Edition, CAN/CSA-C 22.2 No. 60950-1-07; 2007 and IEC 60950-1 2nd edition; 2005. Understanding the risks and how product safety standards address these risks can better equip students to design products for compliance and meet international market requirements.

In this two-day workshop we will review product safety from a technical design perspective. Experienced UL instructors will cover a broad range of technical topics from circuits and isolation to over-voltage and acoustic pressure. We will also review design considerations that can help students reduce risk in these various applications and learn about other key compliance topics and how UL's online tools can assist in selecting critical components, international licensing and how compliance is documented in IECEE CB Scheme style reports. Students will be provided with all the critical information needed to design for compliance to national and international standards widely used in the industry for safety of information technology and communications equipment. Each student will also receive a copy of the UL 60950-1 2nd Edition Standard ($467 USD value).

Certification Impact Analysis for Amendment No. 1 to IEC 60950-1 2nd Edition

UL is pleased to announce the availability of our Certification Impact Analysis for Amendment No. 1 to IEC 60950-1 2nd Edition. Amendment No. 1 was published by IEC in December of 2009 and the Analysis is intended to identify and analyze the impact of notable differences between the latest version of the IEC Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment and its predecessor. Although Amendment No. 1 to UL 60950-1 Edition 2 won't be issued until the first half of 2011, the Impact Analysis also includes analysis of it based on the proposed content of the UL standard.
