Reciprocating Linear Alternator (RLA)
Product Announcement from Umbra Group
Umbra's Reciprocating Electro-Mechanical Linear Alternators (RLA's) are an ideal technology for power generation from alternative energy sources such as compressed gas and ocean waves.
The aerospace-inspired, corrosion resistant, scalable architecture dramatically simplifies hydrokinetic designs and reduces operational/maintenance costs.
How they work:
Umbra RLA's leverage the ability of a ball-screw to be back-driven to directly convert reciprocating linear motion into electricity without the use of gears or linkages. As an external energy source translates the ball-screw shaft back and forth, a ball-nut with bonded permanent magnets spins to induce the flow of electricity in the adjacent stator windings.
