How they work:

Umbra RLA's leverage the ability of a ball-screw to be back-driven to directly convert reciprocating linear motion into electricity without the use of gears or linkages. As an external energy source translates the ball-screw shaft back and forth, a ball-nut with bonded permanent magnets spins to induce the flow of electricity in the adjacent stator windings.
