Heat sinks function by efficiently transferring thermal energy ("heat") from an object at high temperature to a second object at a lower temperature with a much greater heat capacity This rapid transfer of thermal energy quickly brings the first object into thermal equilibriium with the second, lowering the temperature of the first object, fulfilling the heat sink's role as a cooling device.
There are many things to consider when dealing with extruded heat sinks. This includes, but is not limited to extrusion considerations such as, cost, tolerances, extrudablitiy, manufacturing considerations and heat sink design.
Read information about:
- extrusion designs and dies
- drilling or boring holes into heat sinks
- deburring after cutting, drilling, tapping or punching
- surfacing & finishing
VEP specializes in manufacturing a variety of different types of heat sinks. The extrusions supplied by VEP are typically 6063-T5, 6063-T6, and 6101-T6 aluminum alloys.
