The uni-directional travel and endless loop of the wire offers several advantages:
- Faster Cutting times - wire speed can be varied via rheostat from 0.5 – 20 meters per second compared with a maximum 2.5 meters per second with Well's conventional saws. For example, initial wafered cuts on a 2" boule of optical crystaline material took just 1.5 minutes.
- Ease of use – when scrolling the material can be hand held rather than clamped or fixtured to a stage or sample holder making the flexibility the equivalent of a band saw. Also, changing of the wire "loop" takes only a few seconds.
- Lower operating costs – instead of winding 10, 20, or 40 meters (which costs between $150-$400) onto a drum, the continuous loop is projected to cost $75.00 - $100.00.
Markets for this high-speed cutting technology include virtually all materials in any production, research and development, or in-process quality control environment.
Well Diamond Wire Saws have developed a "step and repeat version" with automatic and adjustable feed, retraction and stepping capability. Interested parties are invited to contact the Business Development Department on 770-582-9357 or by e-mail at welldws@welldiamondwiresaws.com.
