Star Micronics has successfully developed a compact and low-profile reflowable microphone for telecommunication equipment use, the "MAB-03A-T".

The "MAB-03A-T" is based on the electret condenser microphone (ECM) structure widely adopted in the industry, and features a new substrate lamination technique and a new material with high heat resistance. This knowledge we have gained through the development of our previous products, utilizing the past to make the smallest and lowest-profile* reflowable microphone in the industry. The surface mountable microphone can be directly soldered on substrates to maintain a stable quality and improve the mass productivity in mounting the microphone on substrates.

The standard size of the "MAB-03A-T" is 3mm × 4mm × 1mm thick, making the product suitable for cellular phone use for where demand for downsizing and low-profiling is remarkably high. With its electronic components covered by a thick substrate material, the microphone is advantageously resistant to drop shock and vibrations. As basically an ECM adopting the above new technique and material, we expect an increasing demand for the product in the telecommunication equipment market where high quality, low cost and mass productivity are priorities.

We have already started supplying samples to major cellular phone makers, and are preparing for mass production from October, 2006, which will produce one million units per month.
