Traditionally, a double block and bleed system would consist of two separate block valves and a bleed valve assembled on a pipe tee. An alternate to this multi valve system is an expensive lift and turn type Double Block and Bleed valve. When a user needed to isolate a system or piece of equipment both block valves would be closed and the bleed valve opened to drain the media from the pipe tee. By monitoring the outlet of the bleed valve a user could determine whether the system, process, or equipment was properly isolated. While this multi block valve system works effectively, it can be expensive to install and maintain, especially when dealing with large size valves or when working with an automated system. The cost of the two block valves, the bleed valve, the actuation for all three valves, the control system to link them together, as well as the pipe tee, the flange bolting, and flange gaskets can add up quickly.

Today, processors have a more cost effective alternate to the traditional multi-valve system - the Tufline Double Block and Bleed Valve. Unlike traditional double block and bleed systems Xomox can isolate with the use of only one valve. This is possible due to the inherent upstream and downstream sealing properties of the Tufline Sleeved Plug Valve. It will maintain both an upstream as well as a downstream seal between the valve ports under pressure differentials across the valve in either direction or under pressure balanced conditions. The bleed off between the upstream and downstream seals is accomplished via a drain hole in the bottom of the plug and a corresponding threaded connection in the bottom of the valve body. Tufline double block and bleed valves may be furnished with or without the bleed valve assembly. Both a Tufline threaded end sleeved plug valve as well as a Xomox threaded end process ball valve are ideally suited for use as the bleed valve.

Tufline double block and bleed valves are available in ANSI classes 150, 300, and 600 in a wide variety of standard materials such as carbon and stainless steels to exotic materials such as titanium and zirconium. Double block and bleed valves are available in the standard configuration and the XP design in both reduced and full ported styles. Numerous end connections including flanged, threaded, welded, and quick clamp are available.

Tufline double block and bleed valves can be used in applications from -20°F to +600°F. Applications in the 475°F to 600°F require the use of Xomox high temperature XeniTh Valve which utilizes Tufline-600 as the sleeve and seal material.

Xomox has supplied double block and bleed valves in numerous applications in practically every industry including chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, refining, pulp & paper, pharmaceutical, food processing, mining, and steel making.
