Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. and Trio Motion Technology are pleased to announce the expansion of the Sigma Series servo system and the Trio P730 product line for more powerful, higher performance factory automation applications. Twenty-seven servomotor frame sizes now connect with the SERCOS international communications standard for motion networks and interoperate with other technology suppliers that have adopted this standard for their automation equipment. This technology was displayed to the public at Pack Expo 2006, Oct 29 – Nov 2, at McCormick Place, Chicago, IL. The exhibit, demonstrating interoperability of SERCOS II and SERCOS III motion controllers and servodrive products from multiple vendors, will also be on display at the upcoming SPS Drives Show in Nuremburg, Germany. This effort addresses the increasing need in manufacturing systems engineering in which individual machine modules not only need to be connected mechanically, but also need to be integrated into communication networks and coupled in hard real-time. Together, the Yaskawa and Trio joint development further improves the multi-vendor interoperability of servo controls and drives on the basis of the Pack Profile for SERCOS.
Typical applications for this profile are in printing, packaging and processing machines; as well as machine tools with special requirements for control systems and synchronization, e.g., machine concepts with gantry axes or rotary transfer tables. The Sigma II Series includes CE, UL, and cUL labeling. There are now 32 combinations of motors and amplifiers ranging from 13.5 oz·in of rated torque to 1550 in·lb of peak torque and motor speeds as high as 6,000rpm. The amplifiers are designed to minimize the use of precious control panel space and continue to operate at rated torques in cabinet ambient temperatures as high as 55°C without overload. The P730 Sigma II SERCOS Interface from Trio Motion Technology makes this leading digital drive communications standard available to users of the popular Yaskawa Sigma II Servo Drives.
