They always wanted to buy one of these but nobody made them. Now, for the first time, a 1700 Celsius Lab Furnace can simply be plugged in to a US standard 110V 20A 60HZ duplex outlet. This breakthrough front-loading box furnace is made possible by a unique combination of zirconia and alumina insulation exploiting the great hot strength of alumina and the low thermal conductivity of zirconia. The zirconia insulation incorporated in the HOT SPOT 110 has the lowest thermal conductivity of any commercially available high temperature insulation. The alumina insulation is a newly developed, state of the art, material with exceptional hot strength. The body of the furnace insulation package is industry standard multi-layer construction and the door is constructed with a unique interlocking design that isolates the hot face from the cold face without the use of reinforcements that are heat sinks drawing power out of the furnace to the shell.
The furnace is heated by four hairpin style molybdenum di-silicide heating elements connected to the power supply by oversized aluminum braids to assure reliable service. The furnace comes standard with dual type B thermocouples that are separately connected to the easy to use programmer/controller and independent over-temperature protection instruments.
This compact unit fits easily just about anywhere in the laboratory and does not require any special placement surface. The standard cooling fan keeps the furnace shell cool enough to prevent accidental burns if users touch the furnace shell while it is soaking at 1700 Celsius. The outer shell is painted heavy gauge steel and the inner shell is stainless steel. The door hinges upwards on a rugged articulating mechanism that assures correct alignment of the door insulation into the furnace body. The mechanism includes a catch that engages automatically to hold the door up while the furnace is being loaded and unloaded. The door engages a safety interlock switch when it is in the closed position to enable power to the elements and disengages when opened to prevent accidental contact with live elements. The furnace is available with an optional extra thermocouple installed to allow direct connection to a recorder and with controllers having various serial outputs. A wide range of accessories and replacement parts are also available.
