MicroMo announces that the Faulhaber 4490 brushless motor comes in both the original delta wound version and the new star wound version. The number "4490" means that the motor is 44 mm diameter by 90 mm long. The 200 Watt motor has the combined benefits of the skew-wound System Faulhaber coil and a rare earth (NdFeB) magnet. The delta wound version should be considered for higher speed applications. The star wound version offers a higher torque output to current consumption ratio. Available with the 4490 motors are precision gearheads, encoders, and drive electronics.

Externally there is no apparent difference between the present "B" series motors and the new "BS" series. The dimensions remained unchanged: 44 mm diameter x 90 mm. The combination of skew-wound (System FAULHABER) and high-performance neodymium magnet (NdFeB) was maintained.

The crucial detail lies in the way the three-part windings of the coil are wired.

In the 4490 ... B series, the windings are delta-connected. This results in higher motor currents together with lower voltages. These motors are particularly suitable for high-speed applications.

Conversely, the prominent feature of the new 4490 ... BS is its high torque. The partwindings are star-connected. The motor currents are therefore lower, while the voltage is higher.

Even more torque is achieved by combining with a 44/1 series planetary gearhead: 16 Nm for continuous operation and as much as 20 Nm for intermittent operation.

The FAULHABER Group offers various motion control possibilities for this drive unit, suitable for a wide range of requirements such as, for example, performing a wide variety of speed profiles, reverse operation, start/stop and stand-alone positioning modes.
