Chemical milling is used to reduce the weight or dimensions of a 3-D part that was formed by a previous process. It is also used to alter the finish or eliminate scratches from the metal surface. (read more)

Tech Met performs chemical milling primarily on titanium, hi-temp and ferrous alloy components, and some aluminum alloys. Alloys such as tantalum, copper, and magnesium are also processed. (read more)

Chemical milling has proven effective for the removal of EDM recast layers, carburization layers and oxidation layers on a variety of alloys including Alpha case removal on titanium. It is also effective for removing smeared metal surfaces caused by conventional machining to facilitate dye penetrant inspection. (read more)

Tech Met has worked to develop a variety of chemical milling and etch related processes to enable production of such products as fusion welded Inconel heat exchangers, titanium metal matrix composites, thin metallic foils down to .0004" thick, and precision patterns etched on 3-dimensional shapes.
