About Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)
Closed circuit television (CCTV) is used for area surveillance and remote monitoring. Some closed circuit television systems can record events and trigger alarms. Closed circuit TV is different from broadcast television in that all of CCTV's components are linked through cables or other direct means. In a CCTV system, live or prerecorded signals are sent to a predetermined group of receivers over a closed loop, either through coaxial cable or as scrambled radio waves. The scrambled radio waves are then unscrambled at the point of reception. Closed circuit television can be used to make a business more secure and less prone to theft. Basic closed circuit TV (CCTV) consists of a single camera directly connected to a monitor and recorder. More complex CCTV systems may consist of hundreds of cameras, multiple operators, and digital recorders.
Selecting closed circuit television (CCTV) systems requires an analysis of product specifications, features, and applications. Before purchasing a CCTV camera or CCTV equipment, businesses should consider their surveillance requirements. For example, a manufacturing facility may need a complete CCTV surveillance system with multiple CCTV cameras that can monitor building entrances, parking lots, and loading docks. Performance specifications for closed circuit TV systems include picture quality, recording quality, image resolution, image details, frame rates, price, and number of colors. Closed circuit TV (CCTV) that provides lower resolutions and slower frame rates may provide blockier and jerkier images. A higher resolution CCTV system provides more detailed images that are easier to identify. In terms of features, recording is an important part any CCTV surveillance system that is not monitoring continuously.
