Mailboxes and Lockers

Mailboxes and lockers are devices used to enclose, store, and separate mail or personal belongings. They come in many different shapes and sizes. Mailboxes are segmented cabinets that are used to store mail and, in some cases, packages. They consist of storage compartments that are labeled individually and secured with a combination lock, or lock and key. Each unit may have a slot through which mail can be dropped without opening the locked compartment. Lockers are similar to mailboxes, but are used to store personal property. They consist of compartments that are secured with combination locks or keyed locks. Typically, lockers are numbered or otherwise individually identifiable. They can be large or small, depending on the application.

There are many types of mailboxes. Choices include cluster mailboxes, high security mailboxes, horizontal mailboxes, vertical mailboxes, and rotary mail centers. Cluster box units are accessed via front panels. These durable, corrosion-resistant products may be equipped with a cam lock and dust or rain shield. Cluster mailboxes may also include pedestal-mounted parcel lockers that can be configured in different ways. High-security mailboxes are designed to deter identify theft and vandalism. They are made of metal, typically galvanized steel, and have thicker walls and added security features. Horizontal mailboxes and vertical mailboxes differ in terms of orientation. Rotary mail centers are free-standing products that are designed to accommodate a rack-ladder system and boxes.

There are many types of lockers. Choices include plastic lockers, metal lockers, steel lockers, heavy duty lockers, athletic lockers, single-tier lockers, double-tier lockers, and triple-tier lockers. Box lockers, vented lockers, corrosion-resistant lockers, anti-rust lockers, wall-mounted lockers, and wire lockers are also available. Plastic lockers aren’t as sturdy as metal lockers, but can resist moisture and humidity. Often, plastic lockers are made of polypropylene (PP) or similar materials. Steel lockers are heavy-duty, vandal-resistant products that are often used in schools, gymnasiums, and athletic clubs. They may be equipped with a combination lock, or allow users to attach a keyed lock. Single tier lockers, double-tier lockers, and triple-tier lockers are used in schools and other institutions. Lockers with five tiers and six tiers are also available.
