Machine Control Software

Machine control software is designed for personal computers (PCs), stand-alone machine controllers, or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. It allows personnel to configure, program, and calibrate computerized machinery. Machine control software is used to manage input and output sequencing, machine sequencing, and control solutions for a variety of industrial applications. Calibration software is an important part of many systems. Typically, personnel interact with machine control software via cathode ray tubes (CRT), flat panel displays (FPD) or touch screens.

Machine control software connects a set of distributed motion controllers over an industry-standard high-speed network. This machine control software framework optimizes the use of PC technology while reducing the need to connect machines by cables. Machine control software is often component-based and may be programmed for the automatic control of repetitive actions. Automated machine control software can update systems such as valve or driver calibration without the need for physical adjustment by an operator.

Industrial applications for machine control software include semiconductor manufacturing equipment, robotics, packaging and assembly, and factory automation. A machine control system is often used in construction applications to manage and control heavy equipment. Using a combination of global positioning systems (GPS) and three-dimensional imaging software, machine control systems for heavy equipment can provide calibration and coordination for the precise grading and sloping necessary when building roads. Machine control software provides an interface for the operator in the cab of the equipment, offering feedback and instruction.

Another part of machine control software is calibration management. Testing, measuring, and inspection equipment often need to comply with industry or government standards in order to be within acceptable error limits. Calibration management software can monitor and update the settings on calipers, meters, and gauges to ensure accurate functioning of the machinery.
