About Industrial Floor Mats
Industrial floor mats include rubber mats and matting, modular floor mat systems, and other matting for traction, impact protection, worker ergonomics and comfort. They may include functional features such as protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD). Industrial floor mats that are chemically-resistant, grease-resistant, heated, or ribbed are also available. Chemical-resistant mats are made of chemically-inert materials, or are designed to resist common industrial chemicals and liquids. Grease-resistant mats have ribs or holes to prevent the creation of greasy, slippery surfaces. Heated floor mats contain wires or coils for heating. Ribbed floor mats are designed to improve traction or drainage. Performance specifications for industrial floor mats include width, length, thickness, and weight per linear foot. Materials of construction and application are also important considerations.
There are many types of industrial floor mats. Anti-fatigue mats are springy in order to reduce the fatigue that workers experience from standing for long periods of time. Anti-static mats are conductive or semi-conductive in order to prevent the buildup of static electricity. Bath mats and shower mats are designed to absorb and/or protect against water in hygienic and cleanroom baths and showers. Chair mats are protective mats placed over carpeting to prevent office chairs from rolling or moving. Cleanroom mats are designed for cleanroom applications. Typically, they feature an easily-washable design to help prevent the growth of germs or bacteria. Drainage mats are designed to capture mud and water from workers' boots. They may have an actual drain, or simply air-dry. Entrance mats are designed for the heavy traffic and aesthetic requirements of building entrances. Non-conductive mats resist electrical conductivity. Runners are special mats designed for lengthy halls or walkways. Sanitary mats are designed to conform to the soles of workers' shoes. They pick up and remove contamination, dirt, dust, etc. Scraper mats are used to remove mud, dirt, snow, etc. from workers' shoes before entering a building. Stair treads are designed to fit the tops of stairs for comfort or safety considerations. Traction mats are designed to provide a high-traction surface for vehicles such as forklifts, motorized carts and dollies, etc. Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary types of industrial floor mats are also available.
