Industrial Shelving and Racking

Industrial shelving and racking is used to store items packed in totes, boxes, or cases. Many types of products are available. Examples include cantilever, gravity, flow, pallet, drive-in, reel, pick, multi-tier and horizontal bar shelves and racks. Cantilever systems consist of welded steel components that are bolted together for strength and durability. Gravity racks use skate wheel conveyors and are suitable for high volumes and heavy loads. Flow racks consist of inclined shelves with rollers that move cartons by gravity. Drive-in pallet racks are well-suited for the storage of products that do not require frequent rotation. Reel racks are used to store and dispense cable. Pick racks often include stackable plastic bins or integral drawers or cabinets. Multi-tier systems are used to conserve floor space and allow employees to store and retrieve product sets. Double-sided, horizontal bar racks include sloped, extendible arms that act as dividers and create small storage bays. Other specialized forms of industrial shelving and racking are also available. Examples include products for mold storage, die storage, coil handling / storage, roll handling / storage, sheet metal storage, and bar storage.

Industrial shelving and racking varies in terms of dimensions and materials. Dimensions include weight capacity, height, depth or length, and width or diameter. Materials include aluminum, composites, plastic, steel and wood. Aluminum is a malleable, ductile, metallic element with good electrical and thermal conductivity, high reflectivity, and resistance to oxidation. Composite materials such as fiberglass are strong, durable and impervious to many caustics and extreme temperatures. Plastics are organic, synthetic, and processed materials that are mostly thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers of high molecular weight. Steel is a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 percent as an essential alloying constituent. It is malleable under suitable conditions and distinguished from cast iron by both its malleability and lower carbon content. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and can have relatively high pressure ratings. Industrial shelving and racking made of steel wire is also available.
