Fire, Police and Military Equipment

Fire, police and military equipment is designed for fire, military, security and police applications, including fire safety and prevention equipment, crowd control, vehicles, or training and tactical equipment. Fire, police, and military equipment may also be referred to as public safety equipment.

Fire, police, and military equipment typically involves specially equipped vehicles that can provide extra protection for personnel and warning systems to aid in clearing traffic for quick response to an emergency. Fire equipment includes vehicles for fighting commercial and residential fires, and automotive fires, as well as rescue vehicles that can respond to accidents and other emergencies. Fire vehicles include aerial units, which include ladders for rescuing people from multiple storey buildings and pumpers and tankers to provide water to hoses. Fire safety equipment includes the apparatus and clothing firefighters wear to protect themselves from flames and smoke inhalation, axes and other tools to break into burning buildings, rope, radios and even special thermal imaging cameras. Fire prevention equipment includes smoke and heat alarms, extinguishers and escape ladders.

Fire, police, and military equipment is used for maintaining order, accessing crime scenes, and securing suspects for transportation. Police equipment includes firearms and other weapons, body armor, handcuffs and restraints, flashlights, batons, and evidence collection supplies. Fire, police, and military equipment also include vehicles that are often configured with special devices. Police car equipment includes radios and computers and may also include police tactical equipment such as gas masks, riot gear, and heavy caliber weapons.

Fire, police, and military equipment can also be used in rescue situations, or in seizing illegal drugs or explosives. Special K9 units provide bomb- and drug-sniffing dogs to aid in these types of raids. Police K9 equipment includes training gear, such as scent boxes; kennels for traveling with the dogs in vehicles, leads, collars, and harnesses; and muzzles.
