GlobalSpec Sets Records with Impressive Results for 2005
Growth in Registered Users, Sales and Strategic Partnerships Strengthen
Company’s Leadership Position as it Embarks on 10th Year of Business
TROY, NEW YORK – (BUSINESS WIRE) – (1/31/06) GlobalSpec (www.globalspec.com), the leading specialized search engine and information resource for the engineering, industrial and technical communities, today announced that it posted record growth in 2005, achieving new levels of scale in its worldwide user base, client base and highly-acclaimed product platforms.
During 2005, GlobalSpec sales volume grew 51% over 2004, while the company’s worldwide user base expanded to more than 2 million registered users. GlobalSpec continues to add new registered users at the current rate of 20,000 per week. SpecSearch®, GlobalSpec’s trademarked technology allowing engineers and other scientific and technical professionals the ability to search by product specification, now includes more than 95 million parts in 1,400,000 product families from over 17,000 catalogs.
GlobalSpec also expanded its reach among target audiences in 2005 through new and enhanced partnerships with CLB Media, Chemical Engineering, ISA and IHS. Additionally, relationships with technical publishers and content providers including John Wiley & Sons, Inc., the IEEE and Knovel further enhanced The Engineering WebSM – GlobalSpec’s vertical search engine consisting of more than 200 million pages of engineering-relevant technical information – by offering access to engineering Web sites and Web pages, editorial content, patents and standards, parts numbers, application notes, research papers and magazine articles.
"We have been able to continuously set growth rate, volume and scale records, like we did in 2005, because of the enormous embracement of GlobalSpec by both the buy-side and sell-side audiences in the engineering, manufacturing and technical communities," said Jeffrey M. Killeen, chairman and CEO of GlobalSpec. "Over the past decade, we have seen fundamental and paradigm-shifting changes take place throughout the world of information, media and technology, all as a result of the Internet. Nowhere has that paradigm shift been more pronounced than it has been in the 'engineering information' category. Through that period, we have stayed focused on our goal to serve the user communities with innovative products that help them do their jobs more productively, and at the same time provide sell-side marketers with online advertising programs that have breakthrough ROI dynamics. As we enter this next chapter of our business, we will continue to focus on delivering the levels of value and innovation that members of the engineering, technical and industrial communities have come to expect from GlobalSpec."
This announcement comes at the commencement of GlobalSpec’s 10th anniversary. Since its founding in 1996, GlobalSpec has grown to gain critical acclaim as a valued resource for engineers and related technical professionals. Over the past 10 years, GlobalSpec has evolved from a searchable product database to a fully integrated platform of engineering search engines, content and tools that map specifically to the information needs of engineers and related technical professionals. GlobalSpec has also become an indispensable partner to its thousands of sell-side clients, who benefit from GlobalSpec’s unique ability to provide highly filtered and measurable sales leads, product and brand exposure and online advertising programs.
