EngineerLive reports that the DOE is sponsoring a broad spectrum of activities such as the $1 billion, 10-year FutureGen project which is aimed at creating the world's first coal-fired, gasification-based, near-zero emissions electricity and hydrogen production power plant.

Steps include upgrades to withstand higher winds, more underground lines, more frequent inspection of power poles, and increased line clearing and vegetation management.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that distributor Scott Electric Company in Greensburg, PA is recalling 30,000 Square D circuit breakers manufactured in China. The recall states that the breakers pose a fire hazard because they may not trip when they are overloaded. |
