DTE Energy and S&C Electric are teaming up on a U.S. Department of Energy pilot project to test and install a new recloser. According to T&D World, the recloser features an open-close-open-dropout operating sequence with a 5-second reclosing time interval. This can reduce the number of temporary faults that lead to outages.

Nanotech Connector Industry First
Nanotech joins AC connectors with piezo ceramic connector bodies and housings. According to ecoustics.com, the connector body combines nano-sized ceramic particles and powdered carbon. The connectors use nano-sized polycrystalline ferroelectric ceramic particles that exhibit electro-generative properties — mechanical pressure creates an electrical charge.

Find Fiber Faults Faster
Fiber optic faults can be difficult to locate. Most are caused by broken splices or fibers, overly tight cable ties, or damaged connectors. One fault finder allows detection of these and other faults at distances up to 3 kilometers. A fault is indicated by a red laser light escaping from the cable at the fault point.
