Nukes Face Rising Operating Costs
Rising fossil fuels prices can make nuclear power's lower operating costs an attractive option. However, Power Engineering says that even nukes now face significant increases in production costs due to rising uranium prices and a tight labor market. A 75% increase in capital costs also makes plant overhauls more expensive.

Equipment Only as Good as Personnel
Tennessee Valley Authority's Shawnee Fossil Plant set a new long-run operations record for a coal-fired power plant of 1,093 days. Power magazine says that keys were using a systems engineering approach, planning for outages, and documenting all procedures. Also vital are multitasking staffs, safety culture, and improving predictive maintenance programs.

Connect HDMI Over Distance
HDMI beats component video, but HDMI installations are more challenging at distances over 40 ft. It is not feasible to buy and field terminate HDMI links — the connectors are too complex and tolerances too precise. But Big Picture Big Sounds offers connectivity solutions that provide the needed equalization and amplification.
