Iowans Prefer to Defer Power
First California, now Iowa. California has been able to accommodate economic growth without new power generation by increasing energy efficiency. Iowans want to do the same according to a recent poll which showed that 79% think state regulators should turn first to energy efficiency when considering how to meet new electricity demand.

Italy to Spend a Billion on Grid
Italy will spend $1 billion Euros to replace 1,200 km of obsolete power lines and structures with 450 km of new high-tech lines and facilities. As reported in T&D World, over 4,000 hectares of land will be freed up. The move also will reduce annual grid losses by 300 million kWh. Can upgrading equipment save significant energy?

Biosensor Puzzle Solved
Smaller biosensors work better than larger ones, but who knew why? Purdue University researchers solved the dilemma using a mathematical technique called Cantor transformation to simplify illuminating computations. They found smaller MEMS-type sensors work better than larger ones because they are better able to capture target molecules.

You Know You're an Engineer If…
We all love engineers and engineering, correct? Well, engineers at Bosch Rexroth recently developed a Top Ten list for engineers. According to the automation vendor, you know you're an engineer if you think Spring Break is a type of metal fatigue. Another warning sign is rearranging dishwasher loading to maximize dirty dish density. And if you have no life and can prove it mathematically, you are truly an engineer.
