Military Materials Advance

Military Materials Advance Many of the products used today are made with materials such as plastics that were the result of military developments made decades ago. These became spin-offs for use in the civilian world. This trend of military based technology development is again at full steam with efforts to create lightweight materials that are stronger than steel and have features like power generation, cooling, and ballistic protection. Other features on the military wish list include: integrated communications devices, wearable solar and fuel cells, biomechanical devices, and more. What industrial and civilian uses can you imagine for military technology?

Self-Clinching, Self-Aligning Bearings = Cost Savings and Enhanced Performance
Spyraflo, Inc.

Self-Clinching, Self-Aligning Bearings = Cost Savings and Enhanced Performance Spyraflo's self-clinching bearings utilize a unique mounting technique whereby they can be securely mounted in sheet metal as thin as 0.04 in. (1 mm) without the need for precision mounting holes. The ± 5° self-alignment capability solves many problems associated with bearing misalignment resulting in major cost savings and enhanced machine performance and life.

Gearbox Prognosis Negative

Gearbox Prognosis Negative As Yogi Berra said, It ain't over till it's over. Even though your machine bearing is already smoking, you might nurse it along until the next scheduled downtime when it can be replaced. This article will guide you in how to manage the 'survival mode' of bearings nearing their end.

Full Friction Flexibility

Full Friction Flexibility A line of cylindrical bushings is geared for high duty oil lubricated machine pumps and motors and automotive applications or non-lubricated light duty tasks. They offer optimized wear resistance and improved static and dynamic friction coefficients. The bushings resist the cavitation and flow erosion damage of polymer bearing surfaces.

A Tacker Wields a Knife

A Tacker Wields a Knife For those jobs that require both cutting and hammer tacking tasks, there is no longer the need to be held up fumbling for both tools. This time-saving tool combines both in the first ever hammer tacker with a built-in retractable cutting blade for fast and easy completion of roofing, insulation, and carpet jobs.

Tests Nail the Competition

Tests Nail the Competition Construction framing workers stand by pneumatic nail guns for speed, but screws still reign supreme for squeak-free flooring. Unfortunately screws loose the speed race since they require the time consuming step of manually loading each fastener. That's no longer the case with these autofeed screwgun models.

Modifying Material Manufacturing Greenly

Modifying Material Manufacturing Greenly The processes related to creating building materials such as drywall and sheet rock can contribute to global warming. As such, they are motivating one smart clean tech company to find greener production methods. By re-evaluating static manufacturing techniques, industry potentially can lower CO2 emission by billions of pounds annually.

Copper Bug Stopper

Copper Bug Stopper Researchers are taking a new look at copper as a possible weapon against today's superbugs like MRSA and E. coli. They are studying the natural antimicrobial and self-decontaminating properties of copper for use on door knobs, bathroom fixtures, and other frequently touched hospital surfaces. So far results are positive.

Righty Tighty

Righty Tighty Forget about having to remember that old saying "righty tighty, lefty loosey." Now your fasteners can show you themselves. The total load indicating system is available for use in applications where fastener preload in bolted connections must be accurately applied, monitored, and maintained.

Rail Reliability Revisited

Rail Reliability Revisited Rail safety requires a fastening system that is both tough enough to withstand vibration, and fast and easy to install. Finding their traditional threaded fastening system too cumbersome, one company tried Huck bolts. The bolt and collar fastener replaces the previous assembly of nut, bolt, spacers, and washers.

Surviving Best Practices

Surviving Best Practices Often it can be said that best practices are tantamount to good intentions and little more. For example, everyone from corporate leaders to heads of state seems to be promoting energy saving initiatives. Yet it seems results are slow to materialize, making this a common quandary faced by many global businesses. Every business shares the common goal: to deliver the best possible results, irrespective of where the technology or practices come from. What are you doing to make your company the best?

Avoid the Obvious

Avoid the Obvious If it wasn't so serious, it might be funny. Crazy lawsuits have forced product manufacturers to the point of placing obvious warning labels on many products, with disclaimers that seem to bypass what would be considered normal common sense. All of this to protect the activities of end users, in an attempt to avoid frivolous legal action. The Wacky Warning Label contest has been around for 11 years and emphasizes the challenges and frustrations of being a manufacturer.
