Anti-Mite Auto Seats
Toyota Motor Corp. has announced the "world's first" anti-mite car-seat fabric. Mite allergens can accumulate on a vehicle's seats and be forced into the air by driver or passenger movement. The new seats contain an anti-allergen agent that envelops most of the mite allergens that settle on treated surfaces.

Fancy Fabrics are also Flame-Retardant
In its "Passion" collection of flame-retardant contract fabrics, Panaz, UK, has created a range of satin, printed flock, and chenille embellishments for high-end bed covers, drapes, and accessories. The collection, intended for the worldwide hospitality market, is one of the first products to be awarded formal accreditation by the British Contract Furnishing & Design Association.

Man-Made Leather is Eco-Friendly
Kuraray Co. Ltd., Japan, will build a commercial production facility for its eco-friendly, man-made leather "Tirrenina," which boasts the appearance, texture, and functionality of natural leather. Because organic solvents are eliminated from the manufacturing process, volatile organic compounds are reduced, as are CO2 emissions.

A surface fabric that offers easy release from the laminate without coatings has been developed by Fibertex A/S, Denmark, and is now for sale in the U.S. Compatible with most vacuum bagging, infusion, and winding processes, "Compoflex has found good use in the wind turbine, racing, and boat building industries."

India Backs Textile Industry
India's Prime Minister, reports the Indian Textile Journal, says the government will continue to support and help grow the country's textile industry. Manmohan Singh recently told a textile trade group that his government is focusing on three strategies: ensuring a stable policy environment, supporting modernization through financing technology upgrades, and helping build global brands for India textiles.

Billed as the "World's Fastest Swimsuit," the LZR has led to 18 world records — and counting — since its introduction in February.
