LLT 2700 Compact Laser Line Camera
Micro-Epsilon
LLT 2700 Compact Laser Line Camera

Micro-Epsilon's scanCONTROL 2700 laser line camera uses the triangulation principle for an acquisition of a 2D height profile of most target surfaces. Regardless of the position, angle, and ambient conditions, the profiles are output as absolute calibrated data sets in a 2D coordinate system fixed in respect to the sensor. The camera's unique capability and compact design enables successful use in dynamic, robotic, and online applications without compromising accuracy.

The high-speed communication and image transfer takes place via the 1394 FireWire® or the Ethernet interface. The complimentary software development kit (SDK) allows easy integration with maximum flexibility for programming and profile analysis. Learn more

Waterscrapers Take the Prize
  Waterscrapers Take the Prize

Capturing first place in this year's eVolvo Magazine's futuristic architectural design competition, the "waterscraper" is a skyscraper that's as big as the Empire State building, but has been turned upside down and plunged into the sea. With ballast tanks keeping the structure afloat and level, the building will generate its own kinetic energy from a series of exterior tentacles. Exposed top levels will provide space for gardens, recreation, working areas, and more.

Nanocomposite Casting Delivers 2x Strength
  Nanocomposite Casting Delivers 2x Strength

Researchers use ultrasonics to strengthen lightweight aluminum and magnesium alloys seeded with ceramic nanoparticles. Previous castings resulted in nanoceramics clumping and non-uniform properties. Uniform particle dispersion via high-intensity ultrasound waves generate bubbles that burst, producing shock waves to disperse the nanoparticles. Applications target military vehicle armor, with potential for automotive and transportation systems.

Funny Drag

Most of our satellites have an orbit very close to the end of the atmosphere. This means they are subjected to an air drag, just like cars on Earth. In the case of cars, the drag slows down the speed. However, in the case of satellites, the drag actually increases the speed. How can this be?

Brush DC Motor Basics

"Brushed DC ironless motors are found in a large variety of products and applications such as medical, robotics, factory automation, security and access, civil aviation and aerospace products. The ironless technology surpasses by far the performance of conventional ironcore brushed DC motors. The main advantages of this unique concept are: absence of iron losses, low friction, and a good thermal dissipation resulting in a very efficient motor meaning a perfect choice for battery operated equipment."
