Rack & Pinion

Used for converting rotary into linear motion. Can be used to provide linear motion of the rack (which is a flat strip with gear teeth) with the pinion constrained, or linear motion of the pinion with the rack constrained. The pinion is usually an ordinary spur gear and the rack has a straight sided tooth form. The width of the rack is equal to the face width of the pinion.
