   Cotter Pin, Extended / Hammerlock       Cotter pins are split pins that are opened outward after passing through a hole. The most common type is the extended cotter pin, which has one end that is slightly longer than the other. Often, cotter pins are used in conjunction with clevis pins. Cotter pins are also referred to as split pins. 
   Clinch Pin       Clinch pins are a variation of cotter pins. They are manufactured with a hump on one end. Clinch pins are self-securing and do not require bending of the ends. 
   Hairpin Cotter       Hairpin cotters are reusable pins that are sometimes called hitch pin clips or external hairpin clips. With hairpin cotters, one end of the pin is inserted in the hole of a hitch pin. A hump on the other side clips the pin externally. 
   Hairpin Clip       Hairpin clips are reusable pins that are also referred to as external hitch pin clips. These pins are made of wire, and are bent for external fastening applications. 
   Ring Cotter       Ring cotter pins are wire pins that are coiled into the shape of a ring. They are also called circle cotters. 
   Twist Pin       Twist pins are twisted wire pin clips that can be used as replacements for standard hairpin cotters. Twist pins are self-locking, and easy to install and remove. 
   Circle Cotter       Circle cotters are manufactured from wire that is wound or turned-on from the middle out. The open end of the cotter is threaded into a hole in a pin, and then turned until it snaps into place.  Circle cotters are very secure. They are used where sharp ends are not permitted, such as fabric applications. 
   Safety Pin       Safety pins are wire-wound, and similar in construction to household fasteners by the same name.

   Plastic       Plastics are organic, synthetic, or processed materials that are mostly thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers of high molecular weight. They can be made into objects, films, or filaments. 
   Steel, Hardened and Ground       Pins are made of hardened and ground steel. Steel may be hardened in a number of ways. These include a variety of quenching techniques in oil and water, being passed through induction chambers, etc. Cooling steel quickly during processing freezes, traps, and packs the carbon atoms inside the shrunken iron crystals, thereby producing a very hard and brittle metal.    Steel, Unhardened       Pins are made of unhardened steel. By definition, steel is a commercial iron that contains carbon in any amount up to about 1.7 % as an essential alloying constituent. Steel is malleable when under suitable conditions, and is distinguished from cast iron by both its malleability and lower carbon content. 
   Stainless Steel       Stainless steel is chemical-resistant and corrosion-resistant, and can have relatively high pressure ratings.
