   Aerospace Engineering       Aerospace engineering is a branch of engineering focused on the design, construction, and science of aircraft and spacecraft. It has two major and interrelated variants: aeronautical and astronautical engineering. The first variant primarily deals with craft that stay inside the Earth's atmosphere, while the second deals with those that operate outside. As manned flight evolved over the years to include outer space, the older term "aeronautical engineering" has been superseded by the newer and broader term, "aerospace engineering". 
   Architectural Engineering       Architectural engineering, also known as "building engineering", is a branch of engineering focused on the application of engineering principles and technology to building design and construction. There are multiple definitions for what an "architectural engineer" is, depending on country, company and organization. Many of them refer to: 1. An engineer working in the structural, mechanical, electrical, construction or other engineering fields with a focus on building design and construction. 2. A licensed engineering professional in some states of the U.S., where architectural engineering may include complete building design. 3. Informally and less often formally, a professional synonymous with or similar to an architect. In some languages, "architect" is literally translated as "architectural engineer". 
   Biomedical Engineering (BME)       Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and methods to the medical field. It joins the design and problem solving skills of engineering with the medical and biological sciences to help improve patient care and quality of life. 
   Chemical Engineering       Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on the application of physical sciences (for example, chemistry and physics) and mathematics to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. A chemical engineer develops new materials and techniques through research and development activities. Much chemical engineering effort is concerned with design and maintenance of chemical processes for large-scale manufacture. Chemical engineers specializing in this often are referred to as "process engineers". 
   Civil Engineering       Civil engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on design, construction, and maintenance of the physically and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams, and buildings. 
   Computer Engineering       Computer engineering is a branch of engineering combining elements of electrical engineering and computer science. Computer engineers are electrical engineers that have additional training in software design and hardware-software integration. Relatedly, they focus less on power electronics and physics in their work than electrical engineers. Computer engineers work on many types of computing technology, from design of microprocessors, personal computers, and supercomputers, to circuit design. Common tasks in the work routine for a computer engineer include writing software and firmware for embedded microprocessors, designing VLSI chips, designing analog sensors, designing mixed-signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems. Computer engineers also participate in robotics technology research. 
   Electrical Engineering       Electrical engineering, sometimes called "electrical and electronic engineering", is a branch of engineering focusing on the theory and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Electrical engineering specializations include power, electronics, control systems, signal processing, and telecommunications. Depending on where a professional practices in the world, "electronic engineering" may or may not be included in the common, local-country definition of "electrical engineering" (a distinction is made in some countries outside the U.S.). 
   Electronic Engineering       Electronic engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on the behavior and effects of electrons within electronic devices, systems, and equipment. For example, behavior of electrons inside electron tubes and transistors would be an area of work for an electronic engineer. Within the U.S., in common understanding, a distinction is made between an "electronics" and "electrical" engineer, with the scope of an electrical engineer's training and work being broader and including electronic engineering. 
   Environmental Engineering       Environmental engineering is the use of science and engineering principles to improve air, water, and land resources, to provide a healthy habitat for humans and other living organisms, and includes the practice of polluted site remediation. This engineering discipline focuses on water and air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, public health issues, as well as environmental engineering law. Environmental engineers perform studies on the environmental impact of proposed construction projects. A person working with the title of "environmental engineer" may have a degree in either civil engineering or environmental engineering. Degree programs in these fields are accredited ABET, formerly known as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. 
   Geotechnical Engineering       Geotechnical engineering is a branch of civil engineering focused on the behavior of earthen materials. This engineering discipline investigates subsurface conditions and materials, determines their physical and chemical properties, identifies site condition risks, and designs earthworks and foundational construction often supporting built structures. Among other activities, geotechnical engineers test and analyze soil, rock and subsurface materials for site feasibility. Their analysis is used for design or improvement of foundations, embankments, pavements, retention structures, and other earthworks projects. Their services are a vital part of any construction project, from providing soil analysis for a building site to foundation design for the large caissons and footings for bridges. 
   Industrial Engineering       Industrial engineering, depending on the organization and type of work being performed, is sometimes referred to by the terms "operations management", "systems engineering", "production engineering", "manufacturing engineering", "manufacturing systems engineering", "management engineering", and "health system engineering". Industrial engineers work in almost every industry. Example activities of industrial engineers include streamlining an operating room, improving supply chain efficiencies, and lowering production cost for a manufacturing facility. Industrial engineers often use computer simulations (particularly discrete event simulation) for system analysis and evaluation.     
   Materials Engineering       Materials engineering, sometimes referred to as "materials science", is a multi-disciplined branch of engineering focused on the properties of matter and their applications to areas of science and engineering. As part of scientific work, a materials engineer may research the relationship between the structure of materials at an atomic or molecular scale and the resulting macroscopic properties. Materials engineering includes parts of applied physics and chemistry, as well as chemical, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering. Most recently, with increased focus on nano-scale science, material engineers are often leading the research at many universities around the globe. Also, material engineering is an important part of forensic engineering and failure analysis. 
   Mechanical Engineering       Mechanical engineering is a branch of engineering applying the principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineers are trained in the conceptual areas of mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and energy. They use fundamental principles, and knowledge gained through experience, to analyze motor vehicles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, combustion systems, watercraft, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, fasteners, robotics, electromechanical systems, medical devices, composites, and others. 
   Nuclear Engineering       Nuclear engineering is a branch of engineering focusing on the disintegration of atomic nuclei and other sub-atomic physics, based on the principles of nuclear physics. It includes the interaction of nuclear fission systems and components. Those components include nuclear reactors, nuclear power plants, and nuclear weapons. Activities performed by a nuclear engineer may include the study of nuclear fission, radiation applications (including medical), nuclear safety, heat and thermodynamic transport, nuclear fuel and waste, nuclear proliferation, and environmental impacts of radiation and radioactive waste.   
   Petroleum Engineering       Petroleum engineering is a branch of engineering focused on sub-surface activities related to production of hydrocarbons (crude oil or gas). These activities are termed "upstream", as they include finding and producing hydrocarbons, and occur prior to refining. Petroleum engineering requires a good knowledge of related disciplines, including geophysics, petroleum geology, formation evaluation (well logging), drilling, economics, reservoir simulation, well engineering, artificial lift systems, and oil and gas facilities engineering.   
   Software Engineering       Software engineering is a branch of engineering focused on the systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable method of developing, operating, and maintaining software. The discipline is sometimes also referred to by the term "software development". 
   Systems Engineering       Systems engineering is multi-disciplined branch of engineering focusing on how complex engineering projects should be designed and managed for optimal results. Logistics, management of teams, and control of machinery become increasingly difficult with increasingly large and complex projects. Systems engineering focuses on work processes and tools to handle such projects, and combines technical and management disciplines including controls engineering and project management.
