   Disc Finishing       Disc sanders are abrasive-disc grinders or grinding-wheel face grinders. Vertical shaft grinder or sander is another term used to describe disc grinders or sanders. 
   Buffer / Buffing Machine       Buffers and buffing machines are used to buff or improve a surface's brightness or finish. Buffers drive either a non-woven abrasive pad or a buffing pad that is loaded with buffing or polishing compounds. Many buffers use a combination of rotary and orbital or oscillatory actions. 
   Centerless Finishing       Centerless machines are used to grind or finish rolls, rollers, shafts, connecting rods, valve stems or other precision cylindrical or radially symmetric shapes that have a uniform cross-section not profiled along the length. With centerless grinding machine tools, cylindrical workpieces are placed between a grinding wheel and regulating wheels. The regulating wheels cause the workpiece to rotate, producing a precision cylindrical part. Parts are seated on a work rest instead of a center in order to provide faster and easier workpiece insertion and removal. Centerless grinding machines are primarily used in high production applications and include throughfeed and plunge grinding. Plunge grinding centerless machines are used to grind or finish spherical outer diameters, tapers, or other precision radially symmetric or cylindrical shapes where profile varies along the length. 
   Cylindrical / External (OD)       Cylindrical or outer diameter (OD) devices grind or finish between the centers or between a chuck and center in a lathe-like machine. Shafts, threaded shafts, large rolls, cams, valve stems, or similarly profiled radially-symmetric components are ground or finished using cylindrical or OD grinding. 
   Honing Machine       Honing machines use small, bonded abrasive stones or superabrasive sticks mounted in a fixture that rotates and reciprocates when applied to the surface or bore being finished. Honing is used to correct the geometry and alignment of holes and to produce the surface required for the application. 
   Lapping Machine       Lapping machines generate very flat surfaces (geometry refinement) with extremely fine finishes by using loose abrasives in a carrier fluid where parts are processed between one or two large flat lap plates or platens. Compared to grinding and honing, lapping removes much less material. Finishes are measured in micron and nanometer ranges. 
   Mass Finisher / Tumbler       Mass finishing equipment and tumblers use loose abrasives or tumbling media combined with cleaning or polishing compounds to bulk-finish parts. Examples of mass finishing equipment and tumblers include tumblers and rotary barrels, centrifugal drums, centrifugal discs, drag or spindle finishers, and vibratory finishers. A mass finishing machine or mass finisher can be used for finishing, cleaning, coloring, brightening, deburring, burnishing, deflashing, polishing, refinishing, or stripping production parts. Mass finishing equipment and tumblers vary in terms of performance specifications such as aggressiveness and finishing speeds. 
   Metallographic Equipment       Devices are designed for metallographic surface preparation applications. 
   Polisher / Polishing Lathe       Polishers, polishing lathes, and polishing machines are specialized machines that produce bright, smooth or fine surface finishes. Polishing machines use loose abrasives, lapping compounds or fixed fine-grit abrasive products such as abrasive films or discs. Polishing lathes include two tapered shafts that accept a variety of tool holding chucks. 
   Superfinishing       Superfinishing, microhoning or microfinishing machines produce surfaces with a very fine or low roughness average (Ra). A very fine grit stone or several fine bonded stones are rubbed against the surface of the workpiece. Superfinishing is similar to honing, but finer or lower Ra finish is produced with limited stock removal. Superfinishing can not correct geometry to the same degree as honing.
