| Type | |||
| Your choices are... | |||
| Ram | A die is pushed against the tube or pipe by mechanical force forcing the pipe to conform to the shape of the die. The process lacks internal support which results in the part going out of round. Maximum bending radius is typically limited to 90 degrees. | ||
| Roll | A series of rollers apply pressure to the pipe as it passes through them. Operators change the location of the rollers to produce pipe of the desired radius. Ideal process for forming helical coils. | ||
| Rotary Draw / Mandrel | A rotating steel die forms the pipe to the radius of the die. A pipe bending clamp device secures the pipe to the die. The bending machine rotates the die to the desired bend angle as a sliding pressure die forces the pipe to conform to the die radius. | ||
| Heat-induction | Induction coil heats a narrow section of pipe While the part is hot; pressure is applied to bend it to the desired angle. Ideal process for bending large diameter pipes such as 48" and greater. | ||
| Sand packing / Hot Slab | Pipe is filled with sand and heated in a furnace. It is then removed and secured on a slab. It is pulled against pins until the desired radius is achieved. | ||
