Electrostatic Coating       In electrostatic coating, paint droplets or coating powder particles are charged and then sprayed toward a part with an opposite and attractive electric charge. The spray process may be airless or air assisted.  Since the charged powders in the spray stream are attracted toward the part, the electrostatic process help minimize overspray and waste. Coating powders in a fluidized bed can also be charged for the application of thicker coatings.
Fluidized Bed       In fluidized bed systems, air is blown up through a porous bed or screen to suspend coating particles thereby forming a fluidized bed.  Hot parts are inserted into the fluidized bed allowing the powder coating particles to stick onto the exposed surfaces.

Corona Charging (HV Power Supply)       The primary force for material transport in Corona powder coating systems is an electric field established between the charged powder cloud and the part. Corona powder coating guns use a high-voltage generator or power supply to disassociate air and produce a stream of negative or positive ions, which in turn imparts a like charge to the powder cloud. The potentials of the charged cloud and gun electrode combine to generate an electric field with the opposite pole (the part). Charged powder particles at the gun seek the lower potential of the opposite pole (the part).
Tribo / Tribostatic Charging       In tribostatic powder coating systems, a tribo gun imparts a charge to the powder strictly by physical contact and movement between the powder and a surface capable of donating or receiving electrons. Tribocharging is the process of creating a static electric charge on powder particles by friction against a non-conductive material. All powder guiding parts in the gun are lined with insulating materials. The gun has a "friction body" with a complex pattern of turbulators through which the powder passes to maximize mixing and contact with the surface providing enhanced charging.  The velocity at which the powder is liberated from the gun - not the field potential between the part and powder, controls powder transport strictly.

   System Option / Component:
   Your choices are...
Applicator / Gun       The gun or applicator directs a stream of paint droplets, coating powder or adhesive through a nozzle or opening, at the appropriate region of the workpiece.
Booth - Spray Room       Rooms or booths are used when processing larger workpieces. Rooms contain the painting or coating equipment, the workpiece and the operator.  Booths usually contain internal lighting, ventilation, and recovery systems.  The operator may operate the spray gun in offhand mode or the gun may be reciprocator mounted.  The workpieces often rest on open grid flooring that allows used paint or powder coating to drop through for recycling.
Booth - Hood / Cabinet       Paint spray hoods, bench top open-faced booths, or coating cabinets are smaller vessels that contain the workpiece and/or the process.
Conveyor / Part Loader       Equipment or sub-systems for conveying, and loading or unloading parts into coating or painting systems.
Dust Collection / Air Filtration System       Dust collection or filtration systems remove fine particle sizes of overspray or other coating waste that would otherwise become suspended in the air.
Feeding / Metering Unit       Distribution or dispensing units that are used to control the rate that the coating media is fed into the applicator from the paint source. The component may consist of a valve, valve stack or manifold or electromechanical feeding system. Depending on the coating technology, the coating media may be in the form of powder, wire or liquid paint. Plural component coating systems have feeders or fluid handling components that will meter, mix and control the ratio of two or more different components.
Pressure Tank / Pot       Tank or hopper for storage of paint, coating powders, or other coating media.  The tank may or may not be pressurized.
Oven / UV Curing Unit       Integral or optional ovens, dryers, infrared heaters, immersion heaters or other heating components for drying off or pre-heating part surfaces before coating, curing coatings or thermally reduce liquid resin viscosity. Thermal heating or curing systems can use infrared, RF, combustion, induction or resistance heating technologies.
Pump / Compressor       The pump, compressor or pressure generator increases the pressure of the carrier fluid or propellant (typically air) or directly pressurizes and moves the paint or liquid coating. In air spray systems, air compressors are typically used to generate pressure.
Reclaimer / Separator       Separators or reclaimers remove undersized powder, media and coarse waste. Reclaimed material can sometimes be recirculated back into the coating process if the media's particle size and coating characteristics still meet specifications.
Booth - Tunnel / Continuous       Production tunnels consist of long walk-in enclosures containing continuous processing lines and systems for cleaning, coating, drying or curing and conveying, or material handling.
Specialty / Other       Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary component.

Automation & Mounting
   Automation / Control:
   Your choices are...
None - Manual       Machine or system is capable of operation under manual control.
Automatic       Machine or system requires a CNC controller to operate automatically with little or no operator intervention. The machine changes or adjusts abrasive media and other parameters such as speed, applied load or coolant / lubricant flow rate in a pre-programmed manner.

   Mounting:
   Your choices are...
Bench / Table Top       The machine is small enough or has features for mounting on a bench, table top or pedestal. Semiconductor wafer spin coaters, laboratory dip coaters, and other research coaters are often bench mounted.
Cart / Handtruck       Machine is mounted on or built into a cart or handtruck.
Floor / Skid       The machine can be mounted on the floor or a skid in a freestanding position. Typically, these units are meant to located and remain stationary in a position in a plant, shop, production line or cellular manufacturing system.
Handheld       The spray gun or outfit is handheld or pack mounted and gun is manually directed at the parts to guide the coating spray stream.
Machine / Reciprocator       The spray gun, applicator, or coating unit is mounted and gun is manually directed on a reciprocator, robot arm, or in a stationary position on a machine or coating line. In a stationary mounting, the parts are moved by the machine such as conveyor, overhead rail or other material handling system. Typically, automatic guns and coating units are used in machine or reciprocator applications.
Reciprocator / Robotic Arm       Reciprocators, oscillators, and robotic arms can uniformly paint or coat a surface by scanning a surface in a controlled and repeatable fashion.  Coating or spraying equipment mounted on crawlers or robotic arms may also find use in hazardous situations such as in containment of toxic materials, extreme environment conditions or in hard to reach places (tower, tank walls, ship hulls, etc.) with associated fall hazards.  Reciprocators and robotic arms are also used in dip coating processes to immerse and withdraw the part from the dip tank.
Trailer / Vehicle       The machine can be mounted on or built into a trailer or vehicle.  The trailer or vehicle is driven or towed to the worksite requiring coating, lining, or painting such as the side or interior of a steel tank, ship's hull, industrial flooring, or building wall.
