   Lens Application:      Lens application refers to the desired wavelength range for the lens. This wavelength range is mostly dependent upon the lens material.

   Crown Glass       One of the two principal types of optical glass, the other being flint glass. Crown glass is harder than flint glass, and has a lower index of refraction and lower dispersion. Both types are used in the production of compound lenses. A glass with an Abbe v-value larger than 50 or 55, depending on its index. It generally has an index of refraction of 1.495-1.54. 
   Flint Glass       One of the two major types of optical glass, the other being crown glass. Flint glass is softer than crown glass, has a higher dispersion and usually a higher refractive index. A glass with an Abbe v-value of 35-40. It generally has an index of refraction of 1.595-1.64. 
   LaSFN9 Glass       LaSFN9 is dense lanthanum flint (borosilicate or silico-borate glasses with RE oxides). A glass with an Abbe v-value of 27-50. It generally has an index of refraction of >1.80. 
   SF5 Glass       SF5 is dense flint glass (alkaline silicate glasses with > 47% wt. PbO). A glass with an Abbe v-value of <35. It generally has an index of refraction of >1.63. 
   SF11 Glass       SF11 is dense flint glass (alkaline silicate glasses with > 47% wt. PbO), Higher quality than SF5. A glass with an Abbe v-value of <35. It generally has an index of refraction of >1.63. 
   Acrylic       Acrylic lenses have 92% transmission in the visible spectrum. 
   Amorphous Polyolefin (Zeonex®)       Zeonex® lenses have 92% transmission in the visible spectrum. They have high stiffness and high temperature resistance. 
   Polycarbonate       Polycarbonate Lenses have 85%-91% transmission in the visible spectrum. 
   Polystyrene       Polystyrene Lenses have 87%-92% transmission in the visible spectrum. 
   Calcium Fluoride       Calcium Fluoride lenses exhibits excellent transmission from 150nm through 7000nm. 
   Germanium       Germanium lenses exhibit excellent transmission in the infrared from 2000nm to 4000nm. 
   Sapphire       Sapphire has a very broad transmission range extending from 150 nm to 6000nm. Its great hardness and resistance to chemical attack and thermal shock allow it to be used in environments where other less costly components would not be suitable. 
   Zinc Selenide       Zinc Selenide exhibits excellent transmission from .69μm to 18μm. 
   UV Grade Fused Silica       UV grade fused silica offer improved transmission in the ultraviolet region compared with crown glass. 
   Other       Any other non-glass, non-plastic lens material.
