   Screener - Drum / Rotary Sifter       Screening units having a cylindrical shape that is rotated as powder is fed into the interior.  The finer particles fall through the sieve opening and oversized particles are ejected off the end. Rotary sifters or drum screeners are often used for deagglomerating or delumping type operations. 
   Screener - Rectangular Deck       Single or multiple deck screening units having a rectangular shape.  Depending on the action, powder or bulk materials can have varying residence time.  Increased residence time can improve screening, grading or removal efficiency.  
   Screener - Round Deck       Single or multiple deck screening units having a round shape.  Depending on the action and feed point, powder or bulk materials can have varying residence time or be made to spiral around the more than once.  Increased residence time can improve screening, grading or removal efficiency.  
   Air Classifier / Cyclone       Air classifiers, cones or cyclones use the spiral air flow action or acceleration within a chamber to separate or classify solid particles.  Powders suspended in air or gas enter the cyclone and the heavier particles spiral out and down where they are collected.  The air and finer particles flow up to the top where they may be passed to another cyclone with finer classification capability.  A cyclone is essentially a settling chamber where the effects of gravity (acceleration) has been replaced with centrifugal acceleration. 
   Concentrating Table / Density Separator       Equipment that separates bulk materials or minerals based on the density (specific gravity), size and shape of the particles such as jigs or jigging equipment, hindered-bed settling devices, shaking table, spiral concentrators, concentrating or wet tables, hydraulic concentrating tables, constriction plate separators or specialized settling vessels. These devices typically use the flow of water is combination with a riffled table, screen and/or bed of particulate material.  In some of these devices, as feed enters the top of the separator, particles encounter an upward flow of fluidizing "teeter water" which is introduced at the base of the cell. The teetering or jigging water fluidizes the smaller or lighter particles.  Most concentrating or density separation equipment are hydraulic or water-based, although pneumatic or air-based systems are also available. 
   Electrostatic Separator       Electrostatic separators use preferential ionization or charging of particles to separate conductors from dielectrics (nonconductors).  The charged dielectric particles are attracted to an oppositely charged electrode and collected.  The particles may be charged through contact electrification, conductive induction or high tension (ion bombardment).   
   Floatation System       Separates hydrophobic particulates from hydrophilic particulates by passing fine air bubbles up through a solid-liquid mixture.  The fine bubbles attach to and lift or float the hydrophobic particles up where they are collected. 
   Magnetic Separator       Magnetic separators use powerful magnetic fields to separate iron, steel, ferrosilicon or other ferromagnetic materials from non-magnetic bulk materials.  The magnetic field may be generated by permanent magnets or electromagnets. 
   Rake / Spiral / Bowl Classifiers       Equipment using mechanical action to dewater, deslime or separate coarse bulk materials for finer material.  Drag classifiers consist of a chain-link conveyor or endless belt that is dragged through a solid-liquid mixture.  Rake classifiers lift solid-liquid mixtures up onto a plate with a screen or rake.  Spiral classifiers use an Archimedes pump screw to lift solid-liquid mixtures up onto a screen for dewatering.  Bowl classifiers, bowl desilters, hydroseparators or countercurrent classifiers are other types or mechanical classifiers. 
   Trommel / Sorter       Trommel are large rotary drum shaped with a grate-like surface with large openings.  Trommels are used to separate very coarse materials from bulk materials such as coarse plastics from finer aluminum recycled material, coarse inorganic materials from organic wastes or large ore chunks from finer minerals. 
   Water / Hydraulic Classifier       Water classifiers such as elutriators, classifying hydro cyclones use settling, flow in water or a liquid to separate or classify powdered materials based on particle size or shape. 
   Other       Any unlisted, proprietary, or specialized Screener type.

   Air Jet       Blasts of air used to dislodge particles and clean the screen. 
   Ball Mesh       A ball mesh is a coarse secondary screen used to hold balls against the primary classifying screen.  The balls bounce up against the screen dislodging particles that would normally blind the screen. 
   Brush       A rotary brush or series of brushes is sometimes used on round deck screener to clean or dislodge particles. 
   Gyratory Action       Gyratory action provides oscillation of the screen in a circular or elliptical motion. The gyratory action aids separation by spreading the material around the screen and/or bouncing the material. 
   Knocker       Device that bangs the side of the screener to impart a vibration and dislodge particles. 
   Screen Heater / Dryer       Screen heater or internal resistance heating of the mesh help in screening damp materials that would normally blind the screen.  The heaters dry the particles contacting the screen reducing agglomeration. 
   Spray Bar       A spray of water through the screen to clean or dislodge particles. Typically water sprays would be applied with round, wet screeners or drag classifiers (belt type screeners). 
   Static / Gravity       In static or gravity screens or sieves, the material drops onto to the screens and gravity moves the material through or off the screen.  Static or gravity screening may be sufficient where for check screening where a fine, free flowing material is passed through a coarse screen to remove any trace of oversized particles or for deagglomerating applications.  Static screeners do not have an attached shaker and therefore have no action.  Static sieves are often utilized in an inclined position. 
   Ultrasonic Transducer       An ultrasonic transducer imposes very high frequency (kHz) vibrations into a screen through an ultrasonic transducer.  The ultrasonic action aids separation by spreading the material around the screen and reducing blinding allowing much finer materials to be screened or higher throughputs compared to conventional technology. 
   Vibratory / Shaking Action       Vibratory or shaking action provides a back and forth motion.  The vibratory or shaking action aids separation by spreading the material around the screen and/or bouncing the material. 
   Other       Any unlisted, proprietary, or specialized cleaning or screener shaking or agitation action.
