The most commonly used instrument for the measurement of the optical performance of thin-film coatings is a spectrometer. Using a StellarNet fiber optic spectrometer coupled to a reflectance probe and fiber optic light source, it is possible to measure film thickness by detecting the sinusoidal fringe pattern from the samples specular reflectance. These instruments are used to measure wavelength emissions from Lasers, Laser Diodes and LED's into the near infrared. A fiber optic cable is used to couple the output from the test device into the spectrometer. SpectraWiz-VBA acquires spectral data directly from the companies miniature UV-VIS-NIR fiber optic spectrometers.
