Metal Improvement Company (MIC) provides metal treatment services that enhance the performance and extend the life of critical components by helping prevent premature fatigue and corrosion failures. This enables component designs to achieve their maximum potential.
MIC has been a pioneer in the shot peening industry by continually advancing the state-of-the-art in customized shot peening techniques and shot peening equipment for over 60 years. Today, MIC operates 24 shot peening facilities in North America and 16 in Europe, and has the capability to provide on-site shot peening services on a worldwide basis for aircraft, power generation and construction and refurbishment projects.
The company extended the science of imparting engineered residual stresses to metal surfaces by the introduction of its laser peening process. MIC operates one laser peening facility in North America and one in Europe to provide this unique technology to customers on both continents. Applications have emerged for turbine engines, aircraft structures, nuclear waste disposal, power generation and medical implants. For large stationary parts, a mobile laser peening system allows application of this technology on site.
MIC also specializes in heat treating of metal parts for a variety of industries, ranging from critical components for aircraft to high volume parts for automobiles. The company operates nine U.S. facilities that perform thermal processing of aluminum and steel components.
To further establish the company's position as a comprehensive provider of metal treatment services, MIC added specialty coating capabilities to its services portfolio. MIC has eight coating services facilities in North America and one in the U.K. that apply a range of solid film lubricants, powder coatings and anodizing treatments.
In addition, the company draws on its expertise in metal stamping and polishing technology to manufacture precision reed valves, which are critical components used in hermetically sealed compressors for refrigeration and automotive applications.
MIC's commitment to quality has earned the company numerous OEM approvals in the aerospace, automotive, chemical, marine, agricultural, mining and medical industries in addition to FAA, CAA, JAR and ISO 9001:2000, AS9100 or TS16949:2002 approvals as might be appropriate at individual facilities.
