  • Pavement Strength Rating Methods as Viewed by Airframes Manufacturers
The effects of allowable aircraft payload of variations in tire pressure , axle spacing, and wheel spacing were explored using four important pavement design/rating methods. The methods used were the California Bearing Ratio ( CBR ) (SEFL165A variation) method (flexible pavement), the Load Classification Number (LCN) method (flexible and rigid pavement) and the Portland Cement Association method (rigid pavement).

Allowable bearing capacity The ultimate bearing capacity divided by a factor of safety and/or the maximum bearing capacity tolerable that will cause a limit value of settlement. California Bearing Ratio ( CBR ) A simple penetration test developed to evaluate the strength of road subgrades, conducted … Cavity Expansion (Theory) The pressure at the wall of an expanding cavity in an infinite soil mass …
  • CR4 - Thread: Bearing capacity
One could use a correlation chart to convert a field CBR value to a bearing capacity but this is not common here. The allowable bearing capacity has to be corrected with a couple of factors related to the depth … Big foundations will settle more for the same unit soil pressure .
  • Aircraft Conceptual Design Synthesis
Rotation is the number of passes an aircraft can be allowed to make over a surface of … Apart from tyre pressure the important aircraft characteristic is the "Equivalent Single Wheel Load". ESWL, which relates to a measure of the surface strength, as opposed to local bearing capability. The surface characteristic for unpaved surfaces are quoted in terms of California Bearing Ratio ( CBR ).
