Anytime you calibrate an instrument you are sharing a level of uncertainty, when you use a standard you are upgrading an instrument so you are transferring certainty and reducing errors in any application where those instruments could be used.

All type of instruments, equipments, measures and systems have uncertainty, so any time you use them there is error associated. There are also some cases of manufacturer mistakes, so try to select a well known brand.

Most persons calibrate their equipment because it is requirement of QMS, but very few people read and interpret the cal report.
