Answers:
Chrome like finishing is important to replacing conventional plating technologies. However, for cost and quality concerns, PVD + UV coating is an approach which receive great interests to the industry in automotive components supply. Presently, for interior decorative use, there is no problem, but challenges exist for the exterior application, especially which requires to pass CASS specification.

Q:
Do you know of any disastrous mistakes that occurred due to the incorrect usage of industrial coatings?
21 answers
Answers:
If the coating applicator is always short-cutting the work and being forced to deliver without looking at the quality aspect, most likely, it will result in total RE-WORK and the disastrous effect is to delay the entire coating project. . .I have seen this many times and it will always happen if the Applicator/Main Contractor insist on fast delivery sacrificing quality.

There was a complaint I attended at a faraway destination. The complaint was that the Epoxy Coating was not drying. Upon visiting Site and checking on the empty Cans it was discovered that the User had mixed Resin with Resin and not Resin with Activator !! ( In Epoxy Paints there is Resin and Activator which have to be mixed in a suitable proportion).

Q:
Is there any advice you want to share with users to help them avoid common errors in selection or usage of industrial coatings?
32 answers
Answers:
The civils leave the selection to the coating applicator, this is a big error, as the applicator does not have access to all coating applications and types. The use of a corrosion consultant who will select the correct coating for the application, not a coating from a company based on " well it worked last time so we will use it again". Technical fit for the solution being transported .
~George B, Engineering Consultant, JHB, Southern Africa
A wrong choice of coating system jeopardizes the corrosion resistance of the painted object, its aspect and thus client satisfaction, you will need to do very costly repairs or eventually start from scratch (even more expensive). Turn to professionals only, since the choice of a coating system is very complicated for a novice, and the paint rep has his proven solutions at hand.
~PATRICK P, Engineering Consultant, Leopoldsburg, Belgium
When considering a new investment project for the green technology to replace conventional plating for plastic parts. Treat this project as a capital investment. If for investment amount concern and choose manual ways to be involved in the processes, one might be confronted with disaster in his production.
