I came across a case where the end limit switch mal-functioned. Probably the program was not so good and the entire air-bearing guided heavy stone slide glided off the machine and dropped on the floor.

Seems like most engineers knew about this product with it's long history; but most of them didn't really know the limitations in special real conditions. It's important to consider this during design to avoid problematic situations.

In some cases DC motors are more smooth running and cost effective then the currently so popular brushless AC.

Apply power rating to select a motor for an application and I don't mean the power at which the motor is rated, instead I mean dP/dt.

Always check on the commutator coals if present, in my experience more than 50% of trouble with DC motors originates from this.

For small motor check the pole number if you need low cogging. Be careful about ironless motor, use I2T to protect
